Historical Background

  • In 1970, the teacher training school was promoted to Nakhon Pathom Teachers’ College, promulgated on 16 January 1970. The Higher Certificate of Education commenced and it focused on producing professional teachers. Meanwhile, department of mathematics was a unit of science division.
  • In 1975, the Teachers’ Colleges began to operate in line with the Teachers’ Colleges Act, 1975. They encountered many changes particularly in their role and structure, which in one way or another paved their way to become more absolute institutes of higher education. For instance, the Fifth Article of the 1975 Act specified that Teachers’ Colleges would, “…become research institutes and legitimately center the Bachelor’s Degree, deliberately promote the instructor / teachers and education personnel’s academic standing, preserve and nurture the arts and cultures, and provide the community with academic services.” Despite the new obligations having been undertaken for merely five years after the enforcement of the Act, Nakhon Pathom Teachers’ College managed to modify many aspects of and perform its numerous roles proficiently. At that time, mathematics department was a part of faculty of sciences.
  • In 1978, the two-year Bachelor of Education extension program in Mathematics began for students holding the two-year diploma or certificate courses. In the second semester of 1978, the first teacher training and in-service teacher training programmes ware also offered.
  • In 1984, the four-year Bachelor of Education program in Mathematics commenced.
  • In 1999, since the large number of students in all college years (freshman, sophomore, junior, senior) in Department of Mathematics was out of proportion with the number of lecturers, the department decided to stop admission for a year. However, the Bachelor of Science in Applied Statistics was launched in this year for the first-batch students.
  • In 2000, the four-year Bachelor of Education Program in Mathematics commenced for both regular and education for all programmes which the latter programme opened for this academic year only. The Bachelor of Science in Mathematics also commenced in this year but less applicants make this programme stopped.
  • In 2001, the department announced on admission to the Bachelor of Science in Applied Statistics for the last batch.
  • In 2004, the five-year Bachelor of Education Program in Mathematics commenced to produce the first-batch of students according to the core curriculum.
  • In 2005, there were curriculum revision and modification on the five-year Bachelor of Education program in Mathematics, the Bachelor of Science in Mathematics, and the Bachelor of Science in Applied Statistics which were certified by Office of the Higher Education Commission (OHEC).
  • In 2006, it was the first year to admit students to the five-year Bachelor of Education Program in Mathematics.
  • In 2012, the department announced on admission to the five-year Bachelor of Education Program in Mathematics according to the modified curriculum in 2012.
  • In 2017, the department announced on admission to the five-year Bachelor of Education Program in Mathematics according to the modified curriculum in 2017.
